From hardship to fairytale

Could you think of a better place to go to get into the mood for Christmas than an old dampy miners cave? Ohhh I think you can … until you've been to Clearwell Caves in december.

It's raining outside. It seems to be raining inside. Wait, I thought we had a dry indoors adventure today? Fortunately the inside showers are minimal and we get not much more than a drop in our neck every now and then.

The old mine looks like a lovely place. With warm-coloured decorative lighting it already seems a happy place. How different this must have been back in the days when the miners where active! The old metal railway carts that were used to transport the ochre and iron ore, now empty, are parked along the track. They are a silent reminder of the hardship of mining.

Today this cave offers a delightful Christmas experience. A wonderful fairytale with beautifully crafted scenes has been created in every corner and the place is full of Christmas trees. I will let the photos speak for themselves…
